Last night my husband Dan and I prepared separate meals together.  We do this often.  Dan’s meals usually take longer to prepare than mine; so I usually work as his assistant, too.  Basically, I get things and put things away for him while he stands in one area and chops and cooks. Helping him get his meal done faster means we also get to eat together; although there are times when I get home from work with a can’t-wait-another-minute appetite. In those cases, I throw my meal together and sit at the kitchen counter and watch Dan make his dinner while I eat.

Eating separate diets, like we do, does not mean eating alone or cooking in isolation. Cooking together gives us time for uninterrupted chatting, which we both enjoy. We both also like to use our creative energy in kitchen.  Although he is “in the kitchen” more than I am as he gets the side of the counter closest to the stove and I get the side closer to the dehydrator and food processor. Neither of us feels we are carrying the cooking and cleaning burden because we are doing everything together. Both of us, coincidentally, are equal distance from the dishwasher.  ;-}

Salad Preperation

Yesterday we both had Italian food for dinner.  Mine was raw kelp noodles with a raw tomato sauce, olives, pine nuts and shredded carrots topped with fresh basil and oregano from our Aerogarden.  Dan had traditional fettuccini alfredo with meat, fresh basil and oregano.

As we ate our separate meals together, we both ooh’d and ah’d over how delicious they were.

-Pure enjoyment, from start to finish.

Happy Eating!
